Dr. Tom Roselle, DC discusses the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland in your neck that makes two hormones that are secreted into the blood: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones are necessary for all the cells in your body to work normally.

Initial symptoms may include fatigue and weight gain, but as metabolism slows, you may develop more-obvious signs and symptoms that may include: fatigue, increased sensitivity to cold, constipation, dry skin, weight gain, puffy face, hoarseness, elevated blood cholesterol level, muscle weakness, aches, tenderness and stiffness, pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints, irregular menstrual periods, thinning hair, slowed heart rate, depression
